January 2008 Report

Presidents Report - ARTHUR GREEN

MARLBORO SHOW AND BOARD MEETING REPORT

The Saratoga Show in conjunction with the NEACA went well with about 30 tables being filled with members. Most had a good show and are planning on attending again next November. At the Board Meeting in Marlboro the board approved having the joint venture again in 2008. I would like a better club participation. Moe was busy at the Show signing up new members and getting commitments for the Annual Show.

Our November 18 th Show at Marlboro, MA was a busy one, all 63 tables were sold again. If you want a table in the future please let Bill know well in advance so arrangements can be made to rent additional tables! The crowd was good with 75 non-members paying to get in addition to many members. The Raffle had almost 40 items donated by Members and exhibitors, which brought in $386.00 for the club, Thanks to all. With special thanks to Steve Skiff for his Custom Knife Donation and Kim Skiff for doing a great job in selling tickets. The Club made over $1,000.00 on the show. Another GREAT SHOW put on by the CAIN’S, don’t forget to thank them again for all of their efforts.

A BOARD MEETING was held after the Marlboro Show with the following items discussed in addition to previous minutes and Treasurers report.

The ANNUAL MYSTIC SHOW was discussed, planning is on track, as of January 2, more than 50 out of 80 available tables have been reserved and paid for. Moe Legare and Norm Bardsley are heading up the show this year. Reservations can be made by contacting Moe at (401) 769-6902 or suzukisamm@cox.net. Check out the photos of the donated knives received from our generous supporters. We are anticipating additional donations; please contact Moe to donate a custom knife or other knife related item. Makers, Purveyors, we encourage you to expedite your item to Moe to be photographed for inclusion in the April Newsletter and use for show advertising in Knife World and other media. The Mystic raffle is the club’s most profitable endeavor that enables all of us to enjoy our favorite hobby and or business. This is a great opportunity to win a wonderful custom knife to add to your collection for a small investment, we need and thank you for your continued support. Please let us know if you need additional tickets.

On a sadder note we were informed of the passing of long time and faithful Life Member #24 David A “ Chippy” Collette Sr. ( the guy that bought all of the raffle tickets at all of the shows for as long a I can remember ) on January the second. Our condolences to his family and June his companion.

July 2007 Marlboro Show Photos

A Board Meeting was held after the show from 3 PM till around 5 PM. The meeting was a bit long but there was a great deal of club business to go over. The Clerks Report was given by Bill Cain and the Treasures report by Moe Legare. The current club Financial Balance was $15,484.73 as of July 24 2007 plus the Marlboro Show profit of $931.25 for a total of $16,415.98

Two new Board Members were elected, Long standing member Chris Kravitt of Tree Stump Leather Fame and Larry Clifford of Rhode Island. (See additional information on the “ Contact Us “ page .

I reported to the Board that I would take care of the updates to the WEB SITE as well as doing the NEWS LETTER. The web site will be updated, as soon as possible after each show and the News Letter will be done quarterly in January, April, July and October.

I went over the results of the Member Survey that I had conducted with additions received at the show, as a result of the questioner handed out by Moe. The greatest concern from the Membership was in relation to the Overall Management of the Club, followed up by Web Site Maintenance, Advertising Concerns, Annual Show Location, News Letter, Annual Show Dates, Club Finances and utilization of Web Forums. These areas were discussed at length and the board is working on these issues with several changes already made and others in the planning process.

The Annual Show was discussed and as previously mentioned we are committed to the Mystic location through 2008, Caroline stepped down as chairman of the event after several years of service in this capacity, our Heartfelt Thanks to her for all of her efforts over the years when no one else would take on the responsibility. Moe Legare and Norm Bardsley will be heading up the event with Moe in charge of Reservations ----------- suzukisamm@cox.net . The Annual raffle is progressing nicely with committed donations from; Jim Siska, Norm Bardsley, Howard Hitchmough, Kelly Carlson an Art Green at present. We are expecting many more donations; please contact Moe if you would like to donate a Custom Knife and don’t forget to get them to Moe as soon as possible so we can get pictures taken for inclusion in the News Letter and upcoming Advertising. The board also voted to increase the Table rate, from $85.00 to $95.00 (paid reservations received before December 31, 2007 will be at the old rate and those after January 1, 2008 will be at the $95.00 rate) Also a reminder to all Makers, Purveyors, and Displayers to commit early, preferably before the first of the year so we can include your names in Knife World and Blade advertising for the Annual Show.

Data Base Updates

As mentioned previously, we are still in the process of updating the database, many newsletters were returned because of invalid addresses in addition to numerous invalid E-mail addresses that I identified previously. PLEASE let us know if you didn’t receive a News Letter in July or if there were any problems or changes in your addresses.

Saratoga Springs, New York Show

Our next show will be in conjunction with the New East Coast Arms Collectors Association, www.neaca.com on the 13 th and 14 th of October. As stated previously this is a well attended long standing Gun show in a great area with lots to do and great places to eat. So far members; Jim Siska, Larry Golczewski, Dave Lewis, Richard Faust and Art Green have made the commitment to attend with numerous other members stating that they are planning to do so. Don’t forget to book your room early, this is a busy weekend in Saratoga.

If any one needs additional information or has concerns please contact me @ agreen03@nycap.rr.com or other board members as listed on the “Contact Us” page. Till October, Art.

June Report

What's News with the NCCA

Presidents Report - ARTHUR GREEN

Annual Board Meeting and Election

Our annual board meeting and election was conducted on May 4 th and 5 th at our Annual Show in Mystic Ct., as per our by-laws. I was elected President, Omer Legare – Treasurer, Bill Cain – Clerk and Linda Cain, Linda Green, and Omer Legare were added to the existing board, Our thanks to past President Mark Levine and Treasurer Caroline Levine for all of their efforts.

The board voted to continue having the Annual Show at the Mystic location through 2009. This decision was greatly effected by the fact that we couldn’t find a location that was any better for the price, on hall and room rate, with most being considerably more with no long term commitment available.

The board was in agreement of the importance of the web site as the best medium for the dissemination of club news and information. I have agreed to take over the updating of the web site and am considering taking over the News Letter as well unless I can get a volunteer?

Lengthy discussions were conducted on possible future changes and direction of the NCCA. All of us had ideas as to what direction the club should take in the future so as to meet the challenges facing the club as well as all clubs and shows. I have heard a great deal of concern from members, for some time and would ask all of you to get back to me with your ideas about the future needs and direction of the NCCA, agreen03@nycap.rr.com, so I can bring them to the board at our next show in Marlboro MA On the 29 th of July.

Annual Show in Mystic

I believe that the Annual show in Mystic was basically successful, with most people stating that they had a good time. The general public attendance was down considerably, with 118 paid non-members on Saturday and 27 on Sunday, even though I had sent over 400 post cards to non-members and Caroline had placed a display ad in the local paper. The display ad had a $1.00 off coupon and only 4 were redeemed. The table rental was also down and as well as several last minute cancellations, we all need to work on this.

The most positive aspects of the show were the raffles and auction. The general raffle brought in $1450.00 for the two days plus what was sent in to Caroline prior to the show. The Saturday Night Auction netted $818.00 for the club with everyone seeming to enjoy the event. Special thanks to Paul Dewey for his service as auctioneer and to all who donated items, bought raffle tickets and made purchases. These two events brought in enough to pay for the hall rental and security for the show. Many members also paid their dues. Thanks again to Caroline and Marc for their efforts in putting the show together and Estelle Legare and Elaine Bardsley for staffing the admission table.

The Rene Roy Memorial Raffle was also a fitting tribute to a man who will be missed, but our memories of him will be cherished. This raffle took in $1220.00 for the benefit of Rene’s family. Thanks Moe Legare, Norm Bardsley and Jim Siska for their work in making this so successful.

As has been the long standing tradition we had great member displays, both antique and custom. Paul Jarvis won the honors in Best Custom Knife and I won Best Antique Display. All of the displays were well worth looking at and our thanks to all who took the time to share their work and collections.

Miscellaneous Items

In the process of sending out a mass e-mail to our membership, I encountered many invalid or obsolete e-mail addresses. I would encourage all members, who have not received an e-mail from me recently, to supply your current address to Moe Legare Treasurer/Data Base Manager, suzukisamm@cox.net. This will help everyone to be more aware of club activities.

On the “ CONTACT US “ link on the web site I have added Links to specific club members web sites and related organizations. I know that I have missed many, so if you would like yours included please provide me with the proper information and I will have it included in a future update to the NCCA site. I would encourage all members to include the club link, www.ncca.info in your web site and use it in all of your correspondences.

I have updated the NCCA Calendar to include all of our 2008 Show dates, please take note, mark your calendars, pass it along to other interested collectors and plan on attending, either as an exhibitor or attendee. SUPPORT YOUR CLUB.

We have also added many new pictures to our past show, gallery from the annual Mystic show and the March Marlboro Show, please take note and thanks to Moe Legare for taking and providing them.

March 2007 Marlboro Show

On the membership page, I have updated the Membership Form to reflect the change in the Treasurer position, Omer Legare suzukisamm@cox.net Don’t forget to include your current e-mail address information! This would be a good time to upgrade your membership to Life @ $150.00, the same price it was over 10 years ago, and never have to worry if you had paid your yearly dues or not .

I’ll call it quits for now and save additional topics for future updates and a Newsletter. Don’t forget our next show in Marlboro on the 29 th of July and to send me your thoughts and suggestions on the club.      ... Art
