2010 Mystic Annual Two-Day Show Update

Here are a couple of reminders regarding the Annual show at the Mystic Hilton Hotel, Mystic CT to be held on Saturday May 1st and Sunday May 2nd, 2010.
As noted on the yellow sign up sheets given to all 2009 table holders, the payment deadline for last year’s table holders to keep their same table space is January 29th. After January 29th, tables will be assigned on a first come first served basis. You can still make reservations after the 29th but you may have a different table assignment and/or be in a different room.

There is a waiting list for the 2010 show, don’t be disappointed, please act now. As of January 10th, 43 tables are booked of the 83 available. The table rates for the 2010 show are still $95.00 for a sales table, $40.00 for a display table. All tables are 6 feet.
You can make reservations by calling Larry Clifford at 401-596-6353 or 401-742-6779 or email at lcliff@cox.net . All phone or email reservations made by Jan 29th or after, will be subject to receiving payment of table fees & dues within 7 days, no exceptions please.
The other important issue is hotel sleeping room reservations. There are a limited number of guest rooms (100) at the special discounted rate of $145.00 plus 12% tax. Once the 100 NCCA rooms are reserved the hotel rate changes to “market price”.

It would be advisable to make your reservations early. If your plans change the hotel will accept cancellations up to 72 hours in advance with no charge. Any cancellation with less than 72 hours notice is subject to one night room charge.

Based on last year’s show results we expect another sell-out show. DON’T DELAY, ACT TODAY…

Thank you for supporting the NCCA

KNIFE SHOW ETIQUETTE
This section isn’t so much intended for current members, except as a reminder, as for all those non-members who plan to attend a show...

1. DO NOT handle knives without permission.
Most dealers will let you handle a
knife if you’re interested, but please do them
the courtesy of asking first. If they say No,
there’s probably a very good reason.

2. DO NOT touch the blade of any knife
that is displayed or offered as a collector’s
item, as this may mark the finish or promote
corrosion.

3. As strange as it seems, it’s important to
spell out a common-sense rule: This is a Knife
Show. By their very nature, knives are sharp,
often a lot sharper than you thought. DO NOT
run your finger down the length of the edge, or
draw the knife along some part of your body,
and then be surprised if you start bleeding. At
a recent New York knife show, an uninformed
visitor tested the edge of one blade on display
and required 17 stitches as a result. Folks,
that’s just plain dumb. Besides, if your blood
gets on the carpet, it will make a mess. Even
worse, it may discolor the knife.

4. After you’ve looked over and handled a
knife, DO NOT wipe its blade unless you are
asked to do so. Just hand the knife back and
allow the Exhibitor to wipe it down.
Knife Shows are a lot of fun. Nearly everyone
is here because they’re enjoying some aspect
of what we might call the Cutlery Connection:
making, collecting, forging, grinding, sheathing,
selling, buying, identifying, cutting,
researching, discovering, learning, …, the list
of activities goes on. Maybe you’re new to the
event, however, and may not be aware of a few
things that will add to your enjoyment and let
other attendees and exhibitors know that you
respect their rights too.

5. DO NOT open more than one blade of
a folding knife at a time.

6. DO NOT block a table if you are only
window-shopping.

7. If you have brought along knives to
trade or sell, DO obtain permission from the
Exhibitor before displaying them at, or in
front of, his or her table.

8. DO NOT interrupt or comment on any
transaction.

Be safe.... not sorry!
