NCCA 27th Annual NCCA Extravaganza Knife Show
Saturday, May 2nd - Sunday May 3rd 2009
NCCA 2009 Mystic Knife Show
Once again the Mystic show is sold out; there are 63 tables in Room A and 20 in Room B. There is a short waiting list, if you feel you may want a table (if there is a cancellation) we urge you to contact Moe Legare (401)769-6902 and get on the list. We can’t promise but there may be a cancellation at the last minute.
The pre-show packets have been mailed to all the table holders who have reservations. If you did not get your packet, contact Moe at the above phone number.
Friday evening show set-up hours for all table holders and NCCA Life Members will be from 5 PM to 9 PM. There will be light refreshments (water, brownies, cookies, coffee & soda) available during set-up for the convenience of table holders and Life Members.
Only Exhibitors and Life Members may attend the set-up. PLEASE wear your Life Member badge so it’s visible, otherwise you will be asked to leave the show rooms.
Due to numerous requests, we have made arrangements with the hotel to have a lunch menu available for you to fill out before lunchtime on Sat. & Sun. The hotel servers will pick up your menus between 11 AM – Noon and deliver your order to your table.
In addition the hotel will set up a Continental breakfast selection on Sat. between 7 AM to 9 AM and on Sunday between 8 AM to 10 AM. The prices may be a bit higher than McDonalds but the convenience factor should make up for it.
(Please support these venues so as to insure future availability - Art )
A reminder, the special rate of $139.00 plus12% tax for 100 sleeping rooms is only in effect through April 15th. We have contracted for a set number of rooms; if members don’t book the allotted number of rooms the NCCA will be responsible for them.
The Saturday evening auction with Paul Dewey as auctioneer will begin at 7:30 PM sharp. Please bring your auction items with you when leaving the show on Sat. We’re looking forward to another fun evening.
As a side note, the Publisher of Knife World, Mark Zalesky, is planning on visiting the show. Mark is attending his sister’s wedding in R.I. and has promised to stop by to see old and “new” friends.
The proceeds from the Mystic show go a long way in supporting the year round club activities which many of you share in; this is an opportunity for all to help the NCCA by supporting this endeavor.
Thank you,

KNIFE SHOW ETIQUETTE
This section isn’t so much intended for current members,
except as a reminder, as for all those
non-members who plan to attend a show...
1. DO NOT handle knives without permission.
Most dealers will let you handle a
knife if you’re interested, but please do them
the courtesy of asking first. If they say No,
there’s probably a very good reason.
2. DO NOT touch the blade of any knife
that is displayed or offered as a collector’s
item, as this may mark the finish or promote
corrosion.
3. As strange as it seems, it’s important to
spell out a common-sense rule: This is a Knife
Show. By their very nature, knives are sharp,
often a lot sharper than you thought. DO NOT
run your finger down the length of the edge, or
draw the knife along some part of your body,
and then be surprised if you start bleeding. At
a recent New York knife show, an uninformed
visitor tested the edge of one blade on display
and required 17 stitches as a result. Folks,
that’s just plain dumb. Besides, if your blood
gets on the carpet, it will make a mess. Even
worse, it may discolor the knife.
4. After you’ve looked over and handled a
knife, DO NOT wipe its blade unless you are
asked to do so. Just hand the knife back and
allow the Exhibitor to wipe it down.
Knife Shows are a lot of fun. Nearly everyone
is here because they’re enjoying some aspect
of what we might call the Cutlery Connection:
making, collecting, forging, grinding, sheathing,
selling, buying, identifying, cutting,
researching, discovering, learning, …, the list
of activities goes on. Maybe you’re new to the
event, however, and may not be aware of a few
things that will add to your enjoyment and let
other attendees and exhibitors know that you
respect their rights too.
5. DO NOT open more than one blade of
a folding knife at a time.
6. DO NOT block a table if you are only
window-shopping.
7. If you have brought along knives to
trade or sell, DO obtain permission from the
Exhibitor before displaying them at, or in
front of, his or her table.
8. DO NOT interrupt or comment on any
transaction.
Be safe.... not sorry!
